My work explores the ways in which inherited culture shapes our personal identity. Be it race, religion, gender or zip code, these macro identifiers (often placed upon us rather than chosen by us) distill into a human being. As a first generation American and passing Latinx woman, I constantly search for a nuanced identifier that is true to my experience of life. I use my practice to give voice to my blended family’s history, the loss of language resulting from immigration and the need to assimilate making us choose what to keep or leave behind.
